Cairngorms Big Day Out

Back in the Cairngorms with friends who havent visited the area in a while so we gave them the choice of routes. In anticipation of a long sunny day, we picked a big circular route taking in the Sluggan Pass, north to Boat of Garten, across to Nethy Bridge and returning via the Ryvoan Bothy and Loch Morlich.

We were on a mission to find every bit of singletrack along the way. Most of the trails put a smile on our faces but there were a few tracks where the route on the ground was practically unrecognizable. Illya navigated us out of the first situation and Sharon’s navigation saved us later on. By the time we got back to the vans we had cycled 58km and climbed almost 1000m.

For tomorrow’s route Paul has picked the Burma Road, a ride well known for its huge hill climb and much debated as to whether it is better ridden clockwise or anticlockwise. He remembers it (painfully) from11 yrs ago and is determined to conquor it this time!
