Heartbreak Ridge

Heartbreak Ridge is a famous mountainbike trail in this area. It is the most beautiful 4km of downhill singltrack which flows over slabs of granite and through old caledonian pine trees. And today it was th ebest we’ve ever seen it – dry and dusty and sparkling in the sunshine.

Riding Heartbreak Ridge

Not sure where the ridge got it’s name but the 450m climb up the long dirt track almost broke us today. We must be out of practice after lots of local covid restricted cycling (less hillls our way) as it felt a real struggle, although to be fair, it was our 3rd consecutive day out in the big hills. All aches were soon forgotten however once we saw the views from the top and started onto the ridge.

Views from the top

Illya went for an explore later on and took this photo of one of the lovely bidges crossing the river in this area. Many were damaged due to a huge storm many years ago but this one seems to have been repaired and reopened. Beautiful.

Off to town shortlly as spotted a lovely small cafe called Rocksalt & Snails which we are looking forward to visiting.
