Last night we were disappointed that our weekend plans had been cancelled as the friends we were due to meet were unwell. But then we reminded ourselves of the flexibility that the van was supposed to provide; to disappear at the last minute and have some fun. So this morning we quickly packed up a few things and were on our way.
It has been a while since we have cycled at Ae and the trails did not disappoint. It is a bit more rough and ready than some of the other 7Stanes trail centres but the red route has a lot of fun and interesting single track.

Not quite the weather that was forecast, it was what the Scots would describe as ”drecht”. Glad i didn’t bother with waterproofs though as the rain was very light and it was quite warm and it would have been ”boil in the bag” for sure. The misty cloud made for some good photos at the wind farm.

Took the opportunity to pop into the local cafe and bike shop for tea and chips.

We are staying the night here as part of the Forestry commission ”stay the night“ scheme. quite fun to be “off grid” and cooking in the wee van again after mostly trips to campsites post lockdown. The green thai curry was yummy.
Repeat of the trails tomorrow before heading home. Shout out to Phil who we hope is feeling a bit better now.
