Summer holidays

Fun to be back in the van for a well deserved break from work. First part of the trip involved driving the scenic road through Glenshee and over to Ballater where we are staying for a few nights.

Our first ride was along the old Deeside railway path to Cambus O’May where there is some very good single track riding in the woods. Particularly love the granite slabs that you get on the trails in this area. After we finished we pedalled along to Cambus O’May Cheese & Milk Hoose Cafe where they make their own cheese which I have been wanting to try. Sadly we arrived just as it was closing, so no luck this time but I am determined to get in there for a look one day!

Today we took our friends to ride Heartbreak Ridge which is another classic route in the area. We didn’t get very far before I noticed issues with my gears, the root cause of which was a twisted chain link. Apparently I may have put too much strain on the chain when changing gear?!? I don’t really doing this but in my defence it is a bit hard not to with the hills around here! After a repair, and with a few links less in my chain, we headed on up the long climb to the ridge. At the top the cloud was very low which spoiled the views, however it also hid the extent of the climb which was probably a good thing. But as we started the descent we dropped out of the cloud and enjoyed the long run down.

Diner tonight at the local Clachan Grill for a treat and then another ride tomorrow. Good times!
