Day 7: 20 km cycle
As we planned 2 nights at Achmelvich Bay there was no driving today. And we woke to a spectacular sunrise and clear skies which was exactly what we had hoped for.
We set off on the bikes to explore the area. The great thing about Scotland is that there is no differentiation between paths and so you can follow any black track on a map whether you are cycling or walking. The flip side of this freedom to roam means that you never quite know what the track will be like as they vary greatly. Today the tracks were a mixture of sections we could ride and sections we needed to push the bikes so it was slow going, but the scenery was stunning. We didn’t cover that much distance but we enjoyed half a day out, including a stop at the Lochinver Larder for a cup of tea and another pie before we cycled back.

This afternoon we spent on the beach. Illya tried our inflatable bike rafting kayaks in the sea and enjoyed exploring the little bays close to the shoreline. I lounged about on the beach soaking up some sun (and keeping an eye on him as I had visions of him drifting out to sea!).

Illya said I wouldn’t use my swimsuit on the trip and he was wrong as I did wear it on the beach. But the Atlantic water was freezing so I only dipped up to my knees. So maybe he was right after all :).
The weather was finally perfect for the BBQ we had planned a few days ago. And it was washed down with the craft beers Illya managed to pick up from the pie shop earlier in the day.
Another lovely sunset. Happy days.
