Touring near Tarland

After cycling Heartbreak Ridge from Ballater yesterday, we headed over to Tarland trails today. The 2 rides couldn’t have been more different!Heartbreak ridge is a long ride up on gravel tracks with a superb 5k descent on granite rock and natural trails weaving through the heather. Tarland trails is a purpose built trail centre with the climbs on snaking man made tracks and the descents full of berms and rock features that swoop down at high speed. But both rides required good legs for the climb and both had amazing views from the top.

We stoped for a look at the Tomnaverie stone circles afterwards which originally were a funeral spot. We also found an unexpected nuclear bunker!

Staying the night at Firbanks which is a very small site but has good facilities, a very warm welcome and the cutest campsite bathroom you’ve ever seen.
