Today was a touring day. We left Loch Garten and headed North East along the whisky trail which really does have a large number of distilleries in a very short distance. Need to come back when we can do some tastings!

We chose to stop and have a look at Strathisla which is one of the most beautiful distillery buildings we have seen.

We continued on to Banff and then East along the coast to Fraserburgh. This town is a major fishing industry and judging by the boats in the harbour I’d say it is a thriving business! But we were here to visit the museum of Scottish lighthouses which included a tour of Kinnaird lighthouse. One of the first built by the Northern Lighthouse Board and is quite unique as due to lack of funds at the time it was built into the existing castle. It was a great tour as we got to climb up into the lighthouse and see it working in action. Amazing.

Staying at an aire on the coast tonight. Very warm welcome with lots of tips from the owners but with the rainy windy evening ahead we are not sure we will see any passing sea life on the beach. Maybe in the morning ….
