Another walk from St Abbs, this time in an easterly direction, took us to Coldingham bay. The beaches in this direction were more sandy but the landscape still littered with volcanic rock and river gorges.

Sunday morning we stopped at the National Museum of Flight which itself is a national monument as it is the best preserved World War I and II airfield. The old hangars and bunkers have been repurposed to display an amazing collection of old military and civilian aircraft.
We were excited to see the Dan Air as this was the company Illya’s brother did an apprenticeship with. The Dehavilland Comet was the first jet plane to cross the Atlantic. Unfortunately this is one scenario where being the first is not necessarily the best idea.

This Concorde was sailed on a barge up the Thames from Heathrow and then up to east coast to Torness power station. At Torness it was brought back on land and taken through the local fields to the airfield location where the wings were put back on. Amazing story.
Overall a great weekend.
