Tasting, Trams and Trails

After Tomintoul we headed south west to end our trip in the Cairngorms national park. I had one last whisky stop planned on the way.

The Cairn distillery is one of the newest in Scotland. It will be a few years until they can sell their own whisky due to the long process to make it. But they have predicted what their whisky will taste like based on the local water, malt and conditions and they have created a blended whisky which they think is representative of what the final product will taste like. Pretty impressive right? And the 18 year old blended whisky was delicious.

We decided to spend the night on Cairngorm mountain at the “aire” that was established a few years ago. Before we checked in we took a ride up the funicular railway to check out the views in the summer as previously we’ve only travelled it for snow sports.

It was a lovely view from our spot for the night but sadly the reindeer didn’t make an appearance this time. I didn’t blame them as the wind was horrendous with gusts up to 85kph. So it was quite a scary night with not much sleep (for me anyway!).

The next morning I was happy to leave the mountain and head to Carrbridge to ride some excellent single track that we love in the local woods. Much less windy there 🙂
