Blowing a fuse

Today’s job was to repair some electrical sockets in the van. On the last trip I caused a bit of an issue by plugging in a hairdryer. I know … I know …. I am effectively camping and shouldnt have a hairdryer … but those of you who know me know I hate frizzy hair. And the combination of the weather and my short haircut recently was resulting in something that looked like a tennis ball that had been electrocuted. It was only a 12v travel hairdryer and was fairly useless but managed to blow a fuse nonetheless.

Anyway, the real challenge was to find the fuse that was blown. Firstly all the fuses were labelled in German. Secondly, a number of the fuses were labelled “reserve 1”, “reserve 2”, “reserve 3” … you get the picture right? Clear as mud.

Eventually, by process of elimination, we found the 2 (they can’t both have been my fault!?!) blown fuses and replaced them.

Illya had also decided to upgrade the USB sockets so that they could be used to charge his laptop on our travels. He had bought a marine quality, higher rated type USB QC socket and set about taking the van apart to fit it. A few holes and some wiring later and job accomplished. Looks quite neat doesnt it?

I have since bought some frizz free hair product which works reasonably well without a hairdryer :).
