West Coast Wanders

Today we left Keswick and travelled West to the coast; the first time we have been in this area of the Lake District. On the way we stopped at St Bees which has an amazing long sandy beach. The weather was really warm and so we just had to have ice-creams from the Mr Whippy van – a “99 with a flake” now costs £2 by the way!

We then headed south to Ravenglass where we are staying for a couple nights. Our bike ride this afternoon went around the south side of Muncaster Fell, dropping out at Eksdale where we were lucky enough to be on the bridge when the steam trains went past.

A blast through the woods was cut short by an unplanned detour due to a lot of fallen trees. We then joined a very under used bridleway on the North side of Muncaster Fell, along the railway track back to Ravenglass where we had a well deserved pint at the pub on the beach.

Steam train trip tomorrow I think!
