Day 8: 25 miles (excluding detour to Ullapool); 11 km cycle
We didn’t have far to go to our next stop however the road we needed to take was a winding narrow single track road. We’d driven this way a few years back in a slightly longer vehicle so we knew we could do it but it would be preferable to meet as few people as possible coming the other way. So we got up early and headed out. The scenery was amazing. And the road was as we remembered it!

As we were too early to check into the next campsite we decided to head to “town” (i.e. Ullapool) for some breakfast and a bit of shopping. Had some great food at The Cult cafe. And then we managed to find a selection of hiking boots in Illya’s size in the very well stocked outdoor shop. Shortly afterwards the leaking old pair got put in the bin!

We were delighted when we arrived at Port A Bhaigh campsite as it is the best we’ve stayed in so far. Great view, great facilities and the bonus of a small pub/restaurant opposite. Goodness knows how it stays in business as the population here must be tiny. After catching up with some washing and soaking in some sun we spent a couple hours checking out the local area on our bikes and finished with a beer in the pub garden.

Day 9: 35km cycle
Today was another day of exploring the local area. There are only a few roads here and we cycled them all! The views were spectacular and we even found a couple of short sections of lovely singletrack.

And to finish off a lovely couple of days, this evening we ate locally caught seafood in the Am Fuaran restaurant – oysters, langoustines and scallops. Yummy.
