Star Gazing

At the southern end of the whisky trail is the Glenlivet Estate and the town of Tomintoul. We spent the day cycling the Glenlivet mountain bike trails which was a lot of climbing but great fun. These are purpose built trails made by the estate in the local woods and designed to be fast, smooth and flowing. The cafe at the end was packed with delicious food and coffee to refuel.

Tomintoul is an area famous for its dark sky and the local town has built a small dark sky viewing gallery. This was a good opportunity to see the night sky and the Milky Way and I had brought my camera on this trip so was excited to be staying locally. Unfortunately it was the wrong phase of the moon so it was too bright and also it was slightly overcast. Nonetheless we managed to get some glimpses of the stars.

What a shame about the moon. This, along with clouds, is usually the reason I miss the northern lights when they are meant to be making an appearance 😂 fantastic to hear about the mtb routes, I’ve made a mental note! 🙂
