Weekend Escapes

After a busy week we were keen to get outdoors and so we headed up to Glenshee Friday evening. At this time of year the ski centre is fairly quiet and it is possible to stay overnight in the car park.

This is a gorgeous valley with scenic views whichever direction you look in. Although it was much more windy than expected we had a lovely evening walk up to the summit of The Cairnwell.

This morning we continued to Linn of Dee as we wanted to check out a track we’ve seen when bike-packing near the White Bridge and wanted to know where it went. We hoped it would connect to a trail we knew near the Corrour Bothy so we could do a round trip. We managed to do the circuit but it did turn into an epic day out with two river crossings and quite a bit of walking with the bike. Good fun though and we are now enjoying a well deserved glass of wine before dinner.

This trip we managed to try out two new gadgets for the van. The first was a strategically placed elastic cord to stop things falling out of the cubby holes when driving. We only ever have coats and hats up there but it still gives you a fright when they fall out whilst driving. The second was a home made device using suction cups and a bit of cord to stop the pots from sliding off the induction hob. We have found that the hob does vibrate a bit and if you are on a slight incline the pots go for a walk! Both homemade remedies worked very well.

Home for the night is the Mar Estate national trust carpark. Scenic location in the woods and the birds are very friendly.

Loving the home made gadgets, there’s a few things I want to make for my van as I can’t find quite what I’m looking for online!
