Room with a view

Back in The Lake District with a couple days at Skelwith Fold near Ambleside. Stunning scenery in this area but hard work for the legs as it is very hilly.

The start of our first ride around Loughrigg fell started with an ominous sign. And there were a few more of these inclines on the route.

The scenery that followed was worth it though.

As were the views the next day to the East of Skelwith Bridge and out over the Wrynose pass. Highly recommended for watching from a distance but not necessarily as the route to drive here as Sharon and Paul discovered; unless you’d enjoy 16 miles of cliff hugging single track “road”.

Cycling up one hill we came across a lovely tea stop outside a farm in the middle of nowhere. The farm owner had set up a small stand with facilities to make a cuppa and with lots of different cakes. There was an honesty box system to pay but it appeared to be closely guarded by the bantam hens. “Spotty Dotty” and her mate literally ran over as we unwrapped our slices of cake and quite aggressively looked for crumbs including pecking at our shoes.

This campsite is immaculate and facilities are really good from the heated floor in the showers to the dishwasher in the washing up area. A 5 minute wash and everything was spotless – even the pan which was still stained with the chilli from a few nights ago! We didn’t need to use it but it was such a novelty.

Lovely last evening with friends. We enjoyed Paul’s meatballs and pasta on a bed of spinach; a bottle of fizz and some yummy ice cream.
