Midsummer solstice

After the drenching at Dalbeattie we welcomed the “heatwave” that was supposedly hitting the UK. It wasn’t as hot in Scotland as down south but the sunshine and warmth was lovely.

We had booked to stay at the Glentrool campsite for one night but ended up staying two nights as it was such a lovely site and we had a great pitch to enjoy the summer solstice from.

Glentrool Forest only has blue and green rated trails but the blue was 10k of good fun and as it was a bit easier we rode it twice! That evening we tried the Omnia “oven” again and Illya made a delicious pasta bake. Very yummy!

The next day we revisited Kirroughtree Forest and set off to complete the red/black trails. 31k of mostly single track which is probably the longest stretch of single track riding we have ever found. It was great fun but quite exhausting.

I was glad we extended our stay at the campsite and could have a shower after that ride. And we enjoyed a late evening BBQ on the summer solstice. The temperature in the van theoretically reached 40C!
