Hot hot hot

Well the heatwave has reached Scotland and although no where as hot as London, this is the first time I have had to use the Thule awning and Stitches and Steel rain cover as a shield against the sun. I needed somewhere cooler to sit as the van was roasting. The MaxFans worked a treat with one set to inflow and one to outflow we managed to get a nice breeze through the van at night.

The last 2 nights we have been at the community campsite in Ballater. Another stunning location with amazing trails to cycle. The only challenge is that every ride or walk is upwards from town and these are big hills.

Yesterday we rode the trails at Cambus O’May which were the driest I have ever seen them. We had so much fun riding the windy single track broken up by granite rock and purple heather. Spotted a slow worm which I am told are very rare!

Today we cycled an old favourite “Heartbreak Ridge”. I am not sure if it is named after the tough 45 min uphill ride to access it (which could easily bring on a heart attack!) or after the beauty of this 5km descent (which makes you yearn for more).
