On Friday we did a long cycle up out of Braemar northwards, across the wide open hilly moorland and back down into town. It has been a while since we did a ride like this in big open spaces with views of rolling hills and rivers in every direction. It was beautiful. So beautiful in fact that neither of us actually got our phones out to take a photo! The single track back down off the moor was an unexpected delight through the rooty heather.
Yesterday we headed further west to Braemar. The heatwave had been short lived and we awoke to a foggy and misty morning which lasted most of the day. In the morning we did a local walk to the top of Creag Choinnich. You’ll need to imagine the lovely view through the mist 🤣.

And in the afternoon we cycled some of the local trails which are natural and fun to ride. We had parked at the highland pavilion which is a wonderfully restored building and centre for the Highland Games. Illya had a go at “heaving the stane” ! We could just about rock it … but there was no way it was being lifted.

We stayed up to watch the football game which required a cuppa and a blanket when it went into extra time but well worth staying up for.

It has been wonderful revisiting Royal Deeside but we are leaving today and heading southwest to Pitlochry later.
