After Innerleithen we continued the trail centre theme and headed to Glentress near Peebles in the Scottish Borders. This trail centre has a campsite so you have the trails right on your doorstep.
It was great fun riding the red route again after all this time although can’t say I liked the new style trails (Tweed Spirit) that have been built near the end. We much prefer the “old school” more natural trails. But perhaps this is just what we have been used to.
Unfortunately the rain came earlier than expected and we got drenched just as we finished our ride. But happily, our van set up worked well including Illya’s latest side extension which sheltered us from the rain and wind. The awning shelters kept the rain out of the van and the fan and heating system dried everything nicely over the next few hours.
Yesterday we rode the original black trail up to the top mast and then tried an unmarked trail down which we discovered was called Ho Chi Min. What fun that was. Really enjoyed the day. The e-bikes certainly help as you aren’t so exhausted at the top that you don’t enjoy the downhill. Someone still needed an afternoon nap though 😁.
The great thing about trails on your doorstep is that we managed to fit in another lap of the red route this morning before we had to leave. This time sticking to the more traditional Pie Run and Magic Mushroom trails before the excellent descent to the end. A great end to a short outing in the van.
