We are on a short trip to the Scottish Borders. We have started in Innerleithen which is a small town historically known for wool mills but currently a major attraction for mountain bikers. On a walk around town last night we counted 6 bike shops! Not bad for a town with a population of just over 3,000 people.
Yesterday we cycled the cross country route up to Minch Moor and then headed east on the Southern Upland Way to see the three Brethren. A beautiful sight on this landscape, the Bretheren are 16th century stone cairns marking the connection point of 3 estates. It was a windy and grey day but the scenery was stunning cycling along the moorland.
We then headed back to complete the cross country trail. We knew there were some diversions due to forestry work but were not expecting the diversion down the double black diamond rated trail! It was a quick scramble down on foot hoping no one was riding down behind us.
We took a stroll into town and were delighted to find a micro brewery with some interesting local brews. A lovely relaxing end to the day after 42km of cycling with 1.3k of climbing. Might have a rest tomorrow….
