Thursday night we spent at Findhorn on the Black Isle. The campsite was a short walk from Chanonry Point which is famous for dolphin spotting. There are about 200 bottlenose dolphins that live in this area as they love to feast on the salmon in these waters. We had a lovely pitch with sea views but despite much peering through my binoculars I only spotted a seal and a human (in the water). The moon that night however was spectacular.
On Friday we visited Fort George just east of Inverness. This is an amazing place. The scale and complexity of the build is incredible although ironically it never got attacked in the end.
We then headed to Hopeman for the last couple nights. This weekend was “summer night fever” which is a gathering of camping vans (mostly VWs) and some DJs who play music at the beachside cafe. It is a great atmosphere and as it was our second time attending we started to recognise a few regulars.
We also found time for cycle along the beach dunes and a coffee at Burghead.
Homeward bound today but already making plans for our next trip.
